What I’ve learned about Baby Benadryl…first, there is no such thing as “Baby Benadryl”. However, there is a children’s version of Benadryl. The label says “do not give to children under 2″. I broke that rule, consulting my doctor first of course.
I was facing a 2 hour flight with a 16 month old who had a cold and does not like to sit still, EVER. For the child’s comfort, and the sanity of everyone on the plane - a little sleep help was needed. This did help him sleep and breathe better - however, it was a good idea to do a trial to see how it affected him.
I’ve heard that some children have the opposite effect. Instead of making them drowsy, it makes them jittery. I tried it with my son hours before flying and luckily it worked with him positively - it made him drowsy. Another dose before take-off limited the crying a bit and helped him sleep. I can’t say it was a completley cry-free and sleepy ride. However, it was much better than the flight out. Baby was much happier, and so was I.
I would recommend this to parents with a sick child or those that need a child to sleep on a flight. However, please do consult your doctor first especially if the child is under 2 to inquire about proper dosage.
